695 New Highly
Detailed
Range Maps
Expanded to show far greater detail such as state outlines and winter ranges in
Central and
South America. You can even make maps appear in quizzes in the
Gold edition
Over 550 Bird Video Clips There are over 550 video clips from Cornell in the
Gold version showing 434 species. Rather than short 10-15 second videos, many
of these new action videos are often 30-60 seconds or longer in length. By
observing the birds in action, it becomes much easier to identify each
species. See videos of your favorite birds in their natural habitat: at
the nest, in flight and in the water! Contact Wild Birds & Beyond for a list of each species included
in one of the new videos.
Your Own Imported Photos,
Songs and Videos Integrate Seamlessly Import
Photos, Songs and Videos! These New Media Files Integrate Seamlessly! The Gold
version lets you easily import your own photos, songs and video
clips right into the program. These "My Media" files will then
appear EVERYWHERE - in the Field Guide section, in Side-by-side comparisons and
in Quizzes. Imagine seeing your own photos included on a quiz for local birds,
just as if they had been included on the original DVD! Perfect for shutterbugs!
You may import photos,
songs and videos from:
- Your own computer's hard
drive
- The Internet
- Other CDs you already own
You can even add photos you
have taken with a digital camera to Guide to Birds of North America v5.0!
[Version 3.9 and the Gold
version both let you add comments and photos in the "My Comments"
section -- but these photos will appear only on the Field Guide page for
each species under the my Comments section -- they do not integrate with the
entire program.]
957 Birds of
North America - Including 32 New Species 32 New Species Have Been Added in the Gold DVD
Version! These new accidental species are recent additions to the North
American list of birds as created by the American Ornithologists’
Union and the American Birding Association. Many have been seen only once or
twice in
North America. This list was updated in November 2008 and includes
the latest
ABA changes to their checklist.
Band Codes for All Birds Now Use 4-digit Band Codes to find a bird. Enter AMRO
to see American Robin, for example. The four-letter band codes are included for
all birds in the Gold edition. You may select birds to view and take quizzes
using these band codes. Hone your knowledge of band codes with the new band
code quiz!
Bird banding is a universal
and indispensable technique for studying the movement, survival and behavior of
birds.
